Carving Class

The atelier of Manispoons is a space for learning and sharing.

​

Open-hearted in any terms - gender, sexuality, age, geological roots, and level of expertise. The carving class is a community of practice in intergenerational learning and open to everyone  young children, older and younger people. From beginners to those with experience, everyone can learn at their own pace finding their rhythm in carving. We also encourage a class to be a LGBTQ open and friendly space, where everyone feels free to ask questions and share their experience and feelings.

The focus of carving class lies on experiencing of sharing 

together and alone in the action of carving woods in a space. 

Saturday Spoon Carving Class

 

Monthly class in a small group of 6.
 

Learn the basics of spoon carving and make your own wooden spoons.

This is a great way to dip your toes into the world of spoon carving. 

​

Saturday Spoon Carving Class lays focus on walking through the process of spoon carving and learning the most essential and basic skills that will be the roots of creativity in making your own spoons. We will be carving with your body, with an axe and knives, with no power tools. You will learn how to position and use your body to carve safely and be able to understand how the muscle works in different types of axing techniques or cuts.

Session 1.  Axe the Spoon Blanks

Session 2.  Design your Spoons and Axe them

Session 3.  Time to carve the Spoons with knives

Session 4.  Carving Meditation on Details

Participants are introduced to axing techniques and carving cuts for spoon carving and get to design their own spoons individually. 

​

Suitable for absolute beginners as well as those with prior woodcarving experience.

Sunday Bowl Carving Class

Learn the basics of bowl carving and make your own wooden bowls.

Session 1.  Axe the Bowl Blanks

Session 2.  Design your Bowls and Axe them

Session 3.  Time to hollow the Bowls with knives

Session 4.  Carving Meditation on Details

Participants are introduced to axing techniques and carving cuts for bowl carving and get to design their own bowls individually. 

​

Suitable for absolute beginners as well as those with prior woodcarving experience.
